1. The state or condition of being wanting; a falling short; deficiency or lack; defect, want, absence; default; defeat. 2. Default; omission; neglect; non-performance; as, failure to perform a contract. 3. Inability to pay debts, from insolvency; suspension of payment: as, failure in business, a failing debtor.
